“One cat leads to another.”

-Earnest Hemingway

I’m the firs to admit it. We are the crazy cat people. I can at least use the excuse that I married into the craziness. I grew up more as a dog person. Now, I am ashamed to admit, that our home houses 4 (yes FOUR!) cats. Each family member claims one of their own. I do not need one for myself. Even though some times can get a bit nuts around here, the felines often provide a service. They can be very comforting, calming, and reassuring partners during times of stress, distress, or loneliness. They often are a source of joy and happiness.

According to the CDC, there are many benefits of owning a pet. Studies have shown that the bond between people and their pets can increase fitness, lower stress, and bring happiness to their owners. Some of the health benefits of having a pet include:

  • Decreased blood pressure

  • Decreased cholesterol levels

  • Decreased triglyceride levels

  • Decreased feelings of loneliness

  • Increased opportunities for exercise and outdoor activities

  • Increased opportunities for socialization

So, no judging us for owning so many cats. It is for medical reasons and helps to balance the insanity!
